Vroom, vroom! Faster Dodge Viper on the way
The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 hits the road this summer, and car enthusiasts are already chomping at the bit.
The Viper gets a significant overhaul in 2008, including a larger hood scoop and six new louvers that improve ventilation. The powertrain is an aluminum block V-10 that’s slightly larger, 8.4-liters compared to 8.3-liters, in last year’s model.
New cylinder heads, bigger valves and variable exhaust timing produces a 600 horsepower engine with nearly 100 more horsepower than last model year. The Viper travels from 0-to-60 mph in four seconds and from 0-to-100 mph in 12 seconds.
The Viper goes on sale this summer with an $86,995 (U.S) price tag.
Mazda adds to North American lineup
Mazda Motor Corp. is expanding its nameplates in North America.
In 2007, the Japanese automaker is expanding its product lineup to nine nameplates and 16 body styles, up from seven nameplates and 10 body styles in 2005, including a redesigned CX-7, CX-9 and redesigned Tribute crossovers.
"The crossovers are a natural extension of the brand," David Klan, director of operations for MazdaMotor Corp.’s North American sales, told Automotive News in an interview. "Mazda is not going to build typical boxy SUVs. We will market to our strengths in design and dynamics."
Mazda plans to put marketing muscle behind the Mazda3, Mazda6 and RX-8, as well as the launches of the CX-7, CX-9 and Tribute. A rehauled Mazda6 sedan, hatchback and wagon are scheduled to arrive in 2007.
