Volvo is launching four new or redesigned models in 2007.
It is launching the S80 flagship sedan, C30 hatchback, V70 wagon and XC70 wagon. A V-8 Sport variant of the XC90 is also on the way. The V70 and XC70 redesigns will be available later in 2007.
The automaker, a unit of Ford Motor Co., hopes the new vehicles will reverse its sales slide. Volvo's October sales were down 7.9 percent in the U.S. Sales in 2005 fell 11.1 percent from a record 139,067 units in 2004.
The company expects to sell more than 120,000 units in 2007.
Worldwide, Volvo expects to sell 445,000 units, with growth coming from European sales of the C30, and new markets such as China, Russia and South Africa.
Chery’s bid to export Chinese-made vehicles to U.S. still in the works
Billionaire auto investor Malcolm Bricklin last month scrapped plans to export cars to the U.S. in a joint venture with China's Chery Automobile Co. But Chery still plans to export cars to the U.S -- without Bricklin, according to a story in Monday's AutoWeek Magazine.
"Chery is continuing to look at U.S. opportunities," the head of China operations for a large U.S. company told AutoWeek Magazine. The executive attended a Nov. 22 Chery suppliers meeting in Beijing. The source declined to be identified.
Chery wanted to form a joint venture with Bricklin to manufacture cars in China and sell them in North America -- one of the first deals of its kind. After two years of negotiations, the deal between Chery and Bricklin fell apart last month.
