Smart ForTwo to go on sale in U.S.
Smart ForTwo is heading to the U.S. DaimlerChrysler AG will sell a second-generation version of the compact car beginning in the U.S. beginning in Jan. 2008. The new model is wider, six inches longer and has a 2.4-inch larger wheelbase.
It is the first Smart tailored for the U.S. market, with three models: a base model called the Pure; a well-equipped model called the Passion; and a convertible called the Passion Cabriolet. DaimlerChrysler launched the Smart ForTwo in November in Europe.
Suzuki on pace for record 2006 sales
Suzuki Motor Corp. has set a record for yearly U.S. sales — with less than a month to go before 2006 ends. As of November, the Japanese automaker’s sales in the U.S shot up 24 percent to 93,673 compared to last year. Sales of the redesigned Grand Vitara SUV are up 266 percent, while the new, compact SX4 accounted for 13.5 percent of Suzuki’s volume at 863 sales last month.
GM trims H4 concept vehicle
General Motors Corp. will display an H4 concept vehicle at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, according to a report in AutoWeek Magazine. It will be a smaller truck that would compete with jeeps such as the Chrysler Jeep Wrangler. GM is also reportedly working on H3 pickup truck for the 2009 model year.
Porsche to debut new Cayenne SUV
Luxury automaker Porsche AG on Monday said it will launch a new model of its Cayenne SUV in late February.
The new Cayenne, Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo will come equipped with more powerful, direct gasoline-injection engines, which lower fuel use more than 8 percent.
Fuel savings of as much as 15 percent will be possible, depending on the driving conditions.
