Acura sports car concept on tap for Detroit
Acura will unveil its Advanced Sports Car Concept on Jan. 7 at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Acura, a luxury division of Honda Motor Co., said the concept will provide clues of what the next-generation Acura exotic sports car will look like.
Toyota targets older consumers in Japan
Toyota Motor Corp. today debuted a hatchback in Japan that is targeted to older adults.
The Blade hatchback is powered by a 2.4-liter engine and costs $19,000 to $23,460 U.S.
Toyota is aiming the vehicle at older consumers without children.
The Blade will only be sold in Japan.
Nissan speeds up hybrid technology with joint venture
Nissan Motor Co. said it is in talks with NEC Corp. about a forming a joint venture to make lithium ion batteries for hybrid and fuel cell cars.
Nissan would partner with NEC on the development, manufacturing and sale of batteries, the automaker said. The Japanese automaker has said it plans to introduce gas-electric powered vehicles in North America and Japan in the early part of next decade.
The new technology could help Nissan catch up to rival Toyota Motor Corp., which has accelerated its hybrid technology in recent years. Nissan plans to sell an Altima hybrid sedan in the U.S. in January, but the vehicles will be equipped with technology from Toyota.
The Nihon Keizai Shimbun newspaper in Japan said Thursday that Nissan and NEC plan to build an $84.7 million (U.S.) lithium ion battery factory by 2010.
