Mitsubishi to display sports sedan concept in Detroit
Mitsubishi Motors Corp. will unveil the Prototype X concept, a next-generation high-speed 4WD sport sedan, at the Detroit Auto Show in January. The Prototype X is in advance development for the new Lancer Evolution, due in 2007.
The concept model comes with a super all-wheel control vehicle dynamics system with four-wheel drive traction and a turbo-charged MIVEC 2 engine mated with a six-speed transmission.
Mitsubishi will also feature the Outlander SUV at the show. The Outlander comes with a 2-liter V-6 MIVEC 2 Engine mated with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Ford denies AutoWeek report
Ford Motor Co. is denying a report in AutoWeek Magazine last week that it plans to build a Mustang station wagon and a four-door sedan by 2010.
The automaker issued this statement on Friday:
"Mustang is an icon and will continue in its current form: a unique, two-door, rear-wheel-drive, 2 2 performance car," Ford said.
However, Ford does plan to debut an Interceptor, a concept car based on Mustang’s rear-wheel-drive platform at the Detroit auto show in January. But Ford is quick to point out that the Interceptor is not a Mustang.
"It is not a Mustang, and no production plans have been announced," Ford said.
AutoWeek is standing by its report.
Report: Toyota poised to overtake GM as top automaker
It’s no secret that Toyota Motor Corp. is narrowing the gap between it and General Motor Corp. as the world’s largest automaker. But now a report in Nihon Keizai Shimbun says that Toyota could oust General Motors Corp. from its top spot as soon as next year, amid plans to boost global production.
Toyota plans to increase global production by 400,000 vehicles to about 9.45 million vehicles, the newspaper said.
