Automakers announce joint deal to cut emissions
DaimlerChrysler AG, Volkswagen AG and Audi today announced a joint agreement today to use Blutec clean diesel technology.
Bluetec, which uses a particulate filter to cut emissions, was developed by DaimlerChrysler with supplier Robert Bosch GmbH. New Bluetec technology uses urea-injection systems to cut emissions.
The new technology is expected to help automakers follow stricter U.S. emissions standards that call for uniform emission requirements in all U.S. states.
Mercedes used Bluetec technology in three of its U.S. models that debuted last month: The E320 Bluetec sedan, ML sport utility vehicle and R-Class touring wagon
DaimlerChrysler, VW and Audi will display Bluetec vehicles at the Los Angeles Auto Show. this week. And Chrysler Group is expected to offer Bluetec in four vehicles, possibly in Dodge pickup trucks.
